PRAISE THERAPY
/Let everything that has breath praise the LORD.
(Psalm 150:6)
The first memory I have about PRAISE changing my attitude, is one from my teen years. I was driving and had just parked my car outside the building where I was headed into a meeting. I was stressed, with so many “teenage situations” on my mind. Just like it happened yesterday, the memory is crystal clear to me. I turned off the engine and immediately began singing a praise song. I sang all the time, so singing was nothing new to me – but at that moment, there was no reason to sing – EXCEPT JESUS! He wanted to teach me the power of praise in a way that would change my life forever, and He did! As I praised Him at that moment, all my anxiety completely vanished. I was so aware of the change in my attitude, that I began praising Him more often.
The next pivotal moment of the power of praise, came when our son Lane was in a terrible car accident at the age of 17. With a brain that was hemorrhaging, ribs that were cracked, and breathing difficulty from lung trauma – he was transported via the medical helicopter to Carolina’s Medical Center
in Charlotte, NC.
Before leaving the hospital in our county, we were told that Lane’s brain had shifted and was bleeding. The prognosis was not positive. As we arrived at the trauma center in Charlotte, we were met by the doctor who told us that the bleeding had stopped
WE PRAISED JESUS.
Minutes later we received the disturbing news that his lungs were severely damaged because of aspiration during the flight. A brief amount of time passed before the doctor called us to let us know that the lungs had healed.
WE PRAISED JESUS.
The third blow came with the announcement of fractured ribs and pelvis, with the news that if he did walk again, it would not be soon. We sat by his bed as he was unconscious and prayed, along with family and friends who were in the waiting room praying with us. Late that night, as he was able to breathe on his own and became aware of all that had happened, we continued to pray. Physical Therapy was ordered. Lane sat up on the side of the bed, and then shakily stood – taking three steps.
WE PRAISED JESUS.
Within 3 days our son was healed and released from the hospital with the medical team recognizing the reality of the miracle that had taken place.
WHAT SETTLED DEEPLY INTO MY SOUL DURING THE NEXT DAYS WAS THE REALITY THAT EACH TIME WE PRAISED, GOD MOVED TO HEAL LANE’S BODY.
Now praise does not always result in an earthly miracle, but praise always ushers us into God’s presence. We can always know that as we praise God, we are recognizing His authority and His control over every circumstance we encounter. Sometimes that healing results in the Ultimate and Glorious healing of Heaven.
Since I began REALLY focusing on praising in my Jesus conversations, He has opened a variety of opportunities to carry through this model of praying. Some “opportunities” have been easy for me to praise and work through. Others have been quite challenging – and have actually been a struggle as I have worked through the steps I wrote about earlier in the Ambushed By Praise and Marching Through The Mire articles. (You can find both of these on the blogs @ Frazzledfemale.com.)
If you are longing to have a deeper connection with Jesus, let me encourage you to dive deeply into PRAISING HIM – not to get answers but to honor Him and enjoy His company. As you do this, God will do things that will surprise you. HE IS AT HOME WITH PRAISE AND HIS LOVING POWER IS RELEASED TO MOVE IN YOUR CIRCUMSTANCE AS YOU GENUINELY PRAISE HIM.
This is not a “sweet invitation” but a COMMAND to praise our God continually for His greatness, love, and works.
”Let everything that breathes praise the LORD.” Hallelujah! (Psalm 150:6 CSB)1) Lay it ALL out before God. Admit your frustration, hurt, and exasperation with your problem. It may be physical or relational. Tell Him how it is affecting you, including your inability to deal. Pour out every thought and emotion regarding your struggle. Be honest and thorough as you lay it all out.
2) After you gush it all out to your Lord, immediately cease ALL TRUST IN YOURSELF. This means not even thinking about the situation at all. Keep from imagining what you will do OR how it is going to work out. Just completely shut your mind and emotions down.
(Step #2 is the most difficult for me, but I’m getting better at it.)
3) As you do the above, move into concentrating on God. As I move to this step, I speak praise scriptures or listen to worship songs. I get totally immersed in focusing on God, and not my problem.Therapy is defined as a collaborative process, aimed at relieving mental and emotional distress. When I’m hit with an unexpected, and often disconcerting struggle, I know that the only way I can move forward victoriously, is with Jesus. He is my Authority, my Go-To, and my Guide for dealing with the issue and moving forward.
Jumping into PRAISE, I begin to feel at ease knowing that He’s Got It!
Loving Jesus, praising Him, and thanking Him for His involvement in every single detail of daily living can become a lifestyle if you choose it. I’m finding a new level of peace and grace in my relationship with Jesus, and with others because of moving in the obedience of PRAISE.
”Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”
(1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NLT)
