REDEEMED, Past
/In preparing my heart for Easter I have been considering what it means to me practically, to be redeemed. In considering the concept of my redemption I have thought about the stages of being redeemed…past, present, future. Today’s thoughts center on my past redemption.
As a follower of Jesus, the phrase “Jesus redeemed me” carries a glorious reality. Through Jesus’s sacrifice and death on the cross, my sins are forgiven and I am freed from the bondage of sin and death. This LIFE of mine one day will be in the presence of Jesus in Heaven and I will truly experience the fulfillment of glorified living - redemption fulfilled!
I also know and experience a relationship with my Redeemer, Jesus. Through His death on the cross He paid the ultimate price for my sins. This means He freed me from the wrath of God due me – because I “inherited sin” at birth. In addition to paying the price for my sin, He forgave me for every single sinful thought and behavior. The price He paid was His bloodshed, which resulted in His death, burial, and resurrection.
To say that “Jesus redeemed me” I acknowledge that my condition of sin separated me from holy God. However, through the sacrifice of Christ, I have been freed from that bondage and debt TO SIN, and have received forgiveness and new living in Christ.
This is REDEMPTION explained in words – but the reality of the transaction goes way beyond what any wordsmith could even attempt to capture.
If YOU are redeemed it means there was a definite moment in the past when you admitted you were a sinner and acknowledged Jesus as The Redeemer, The One who paid the price for your sin. At that instant you stepped into the reality of a NEW and GLORIOUS living experience.
Could considering the gift of your redemption at that moment – positively affect every other moment of your life since then, along with every moment of living in the future?
Can what Jesus did on the cross FOR YOU way back then, influence how you talk, think, and walk about in your daily life?
Of course!
Perhaps you know that to be true intellectually, but are you living in the gift of your salvation?
Do you feel hopeful, talk kindly, behave gracefully? If you do, you are operating within the fruit of His Spirit living within you.
The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.( Galatians 5:22,23)
It’s a challenge for sure, but for me – intentionally considering my redemption these days, is helping me to grab hold of what Jesus did for me on the cross – and THAT changes my walk, talk, and behavior. It's a way of honoring Him when I think, talk, and walk in ways that please Him.
We have everything we need in Christ. And, we didn’t go begging for Him to save us, either. He chose us, in His grace. Being redeemed means you are adopted, accepted, sealed, and secure in the heart of God through
His Son, Jesus.
Dear Jesus, I’m so humbled by intentionally turning my heart to what You did for me on the cross. I want to honor You and Your sacrifice - by walking, talking, and thinking in ways that show my gratitude for what You have done for me. I know there are times I mess up, but when I run to You – I experience Your mercy and grace flowing over and within me. Thank You Lord. So; I will continue to reflect on Your cross and the moment I received Your saving grace. You, Lord, are worthy to be honored and praised. Amen.
